Whether you’re juggling back-to-school forms, running a business, or just trying to keep track of everything in one place — your home office should make life easier, not more stressful. But if your desk is covered in papers, cords, and half-finished to-do lists, it’s hard to feel focused or productive.
Let’s change that.
In this post, we’re walking you through how we approach home office organization — the same way we would if we were working with you in person. Our goal? A space that supports your routines, helps you stay focused, and feels good to sit down in.
Step 1: Start with a Surface Reset
Before we can create any kind of system, we have to clear the clutter. Start by removing everything from your desktop and drawers. Yes, everything. Give the space a quick clean (dust, wipe, vacuum if needed), and then only put back what you actually use.
We like to ask clients: Do you use this every day, every week, or just once in a while?
If it’s not serving you, it’s time to toss, donate, or file it away elsewhere.
Step 2: Create Zones That Match How You Work
Think about the different tasks you do in your office. Maybe it’s paying bills, planning your week, managing work projects, or helping kids with homework. Designate a space or drawer for each of those “zones.”
Some of our favorites:
A paperwork zone with a file sorter or magazine holder for mail, permission slips, and bills
A supplies zone with labeled bins or dividers for pens, highlighters, sticky notes, etc.
A tech zone for chargers, headphones, and backup cords
The key is to give everything a home — so you’re not scrambling to find what you need.
Step 3: Use the Right Organizers (But Keep It Simple)
Clear Acrylic Drawer Organizers
No more digging for paper clips or chargers — everything stays in sight and in place. Perfect for sorting pens, tape, cords, sticky notes, and other supplies.

Magazine File Holders
Tame the paper clutter by standing it up. Magazine file holders are perfect for sorting incoming mail, kids’ school forms, or active projects — and they keep your desk clear without letting papers pile up.
Cord Management Clips & Organizers
Chargers, earbuds, laptop cords — these clips help keep it all tidy (and untangled). No more crawling under your desk.

Acrylic Photo Display / Art Stand
Add a small personal touch to your workspace without cluttering it. We love using these to display family photos, prints, or even a calming quote.
Desktop Letter Trays
A desktop letter tray is perfect for sorting incoming mail, school forms, or active projects you need to keep in reach. It keeps stacks from turning into piles — and helps your workspace feel a little more under control.
Step 4: Set the Mood for Focus
You don’t need to overhaul your space to make it feel calmer. Try adding a few elements that make your office a place you actually want to be:
A small lamp or task light for softer lighting
A candle or essential oil diffuser for a subtle scent
A family photo or piece of art you love
A clutter-free desktop with only your daily essentials
Even the smallest touch can shift your mindset and make working from home feel a little more enjoyable.
Step 5: Try Time Blocking for Your To-Do List
Once your space is working for you, it’s time to rethink how you use it.
Time blocking is one of our favorite ways to stay on track during the day. Instead of writing a never-ending to-do list, try assigning your tasks to blocks of time — like “emails from 9–10am,” “client work from 10–12,” “school pickup from 2:30–3.”
We personally love using the Skylight Calendar for this. It’s a digital touchscreen that’s great for family routines and home offices alike — and makes it easy to see your day at a glance.
If you want help setting it up, we offer virtual consults to walk you through it and tailor it to your schedule.
